Donation to Provide 10,000 Meals Through the Maryland Food Bank
When you think about a food bank and its role to provide for those in need, the picture in your mind isn’t nearly as sophisticated as it needs to be to describe the Maryland Food Bank.
As it continues in its mission to ease food insecurity throughout the state, the Maryland Food Bank has been evolving their service model. This past year saw an increase in monetary donations, allowing them more control over the kind of food that they could distribute. The result has been an increased focus on nutrition and providing healthy food options.
We were a part of that evolution when we made a monetary donation to the food bank last year instead of purchasing edible fruit arrangements as a thank you gifts for our clients
The response that we received from our clients was so overwhelmingly positive that we have decided to do the same thing this year. We’re making a donation this month that will provide the equivalent of 10,000 meals through the Maryland Food Bank.
As we have learned more about their work, we can’t help but be impressed and astounded at all that the food bank has achieved. Just to give you an idea of the extent of their reach, here’s what the food bank distributed in their 2021 fiscal year:
- More than 74 million pounds of food distributed
- Nearly 62 million meals distributed
- Nearly 170,000 meals a day
It’s estimated that as many as one in three Marylanders are facing food insecurity, and the Maryland Food Bank is stepping up to the plate to help people overcome obstacles to self-sufficiency in creative and effective ways.
